This chisel and punch set is made of chrome vanadium steel for lasting, cutting edges. It's a multi-use automotive tool with the ability to remove bearings, suspension bolts, and roll pins.

It also contains a double ball detent lock secures punches and chisels while in use. The set includes a quick change handle and 12 commonly used chisels and punches: 5 flat chisels (1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1"), 1 cape chisel (1/4"), 2 taper punches (1/8", 1/4"), 2 pin punches (3/16", 1/4"), and 2 center punches (1/8", 3/16").
This is a great selection of automotive chisels and punches (not wood) for the DIY automotive repair person. Obviously if you are a pro, you’re going to select higher-priced individual chisels that are task-specific for your type of work. When you are looking at any tool that says it’s made of chrome vanadium or has it imprinted on the tool itself (these don’t) you are looking at a fancy name for an alloy. These are made of a carbon steel alloy. When I tapped the two larger chisels together I heard a nice ping that tells me the alloy is decent.
There are five nice flat chisels (1/2”, 5/8”, 3/4”, 7/8”, 1”), a nice assortment for many types of jobs from removing rivets to cutting rods. Instead of having twelve long chisels there’s a quick-change handle that accommodates all of the chisels and punches. I simply pressed the button and inserted whichever chisel or punch I wanted to work with. It can be easily locked or unlocked with a very light press and turn. There’s a visual lock indicator on the handle.
The quick-change handle is heavy-duty and well-made. The end is a softer metal than the chisels because it needed to have some give when I hammered it. I tested one of the punches, which looked like a nail set, by actually setting several nails in my barn floor. The punch was clean and the tool very easy to work with. There are some nice extras in here such as a cross-cut chisel for getting into those hard to reach areas.
There are several different punches, a mix of aligning and straight shank (taper, pin, and center), of varying sizes that will fit most needs. I’m definitely a DIYer, but not so much in the automotive line, but one of my brothers is certainly going to make good use of this set. He does quite a bit of his own automotive work and would definitely find this set to be a cost-effective one to have in his shop. Instead of having to buy several individual chisels or punches, they’re all in one single case.
